Fun events at Pentlands Community Space Hub

By 17th October 2022No Comments

One of our local charity partners, Pentlands Community Space (PCS), has announced its first events at the Hub@531 Lanark Road. The free activities, made possible by a successful grant application, come as preparations continue at the new community hub.

The events include guided Nordic walking groups, stress management workshops and mindful yoga.

Nordic walking: taster and learning the technique of this total-body version of walking uses special poles to give extra support, and improves arm as well as leg toning. These social walking experiences guided by Trevor, a local Nordic walking leader, are done at a gentle pace and walking poles are provided. There are a maximum of 10 spaces on each session which will run for an hour. Nordic walking is a fantastic way to get out in the fresh air.

The sessions will start from the Hub@531 Lanark Road on the following dates and times:

Thursday 20th October at 1.30 pm
With Monday 24th October at 10.30am (only for those who have attended any of the previous sessions)

Stress management: PCS is running two mental health sessions entitled “Stress: What is it, why do I have it and how do I get rid of it?” led by Dr Stephen Smith, D Clin Psy.

The sessions, which will offer tools and techniques to help manage everyday stress, will be held on Monday 24th October at 7.30pm and Tuesday 1st November at 7.30pm. These standalone one-hour sessions will take place in the Hub@531 Lanark Road. Places are limited to 12 on each night.

Mindful yoga: yoga sessions, managed by local expert Monica from Karma Tree Yoga, will involve chair sessions for those less mobile, as well as traditional mat sessions for the more able. The sessions will incorporate breath and relaxation work and encourage you to let go of your everyday stresses giving you the space to nurture your health and general wellbeing. These sessions are likely to be taking place on Tuesdays towards the end of the month; expressions of interest are being handled by PCS.

Interest in any of the events above can be booked by emailing to info@pentlandsspace.org or by texting 07923 831 584.

If you have indicated your interest already in any of these activities, organisers will be in touch again nearer the date of an event.

In addition to the free events, Mini First Aid Baby & Child first aid classes are also coming to the new Hub in Juniper Green on Thursday 27th October and Tuesday 6th December, both starting at 7pm.

There are only three places left at the October event and due to its popularity a further event is now planned for December.

The award-winning informal baby and child first aid sessions are designed especially for parents, carers and grandparents, and are being led by an experienced first aid instructor and local mum.

The sessions, which cost £25 per person, cover all the essentials for baby and child first aid emergencies, including:- baby and child CPR, choking (for all the family), bleeding, burns, febrile seizures, meningitis awareness, head bumps and much more.

Participants have the opportunity to practice new skills on baby and child manikins and will take home a Mini First Aid booklet.

And parents without babysitters need not worry. Pre-crawling babies are very welcome (feeding/changing/crying are not a problem).

Booking is essential as places are very limited. Click here for October and here for December.
