Looking after our families in their time of need continues to be our priority, as does ensuring dignity and care for your loved one.
Therefore, our focus is reassuring families of the following:
- We are still operating and providing a 24/7 service.
- We are currently allowing families to arrange a funeral within our premises, by appointment, with a maximum of 2 people in attendance and in line with social distancing guidelines. We would politely request you to telephone in the first instance to make an appointment.
- We have 6 funeral homes across Edinburgh & the Lothians. For details of the nearest funeral home to your location, please visit www.porteousfunerals.com.
- We can also arrange funerals by telephone, email, skype or other online video conferencing platforms.
- We are still able to allow families or individuals who are self-isolating, the opportunity to say goodbye to their loved one when their period of isolation is finished.
- We are still offering families the opportunity to visit their loved one in our premises, in line with social distancing guidelines and by appointment, with numbers restricted at any one visit.
- Limousines are still available on request. If a limousine is required, we ask the passengers to wear face coverings in line with Government advice unless medically exempt.
- The current Government guidance on numbers of mourners permitted to attend a funeral is a maximum of 20, however depending on the size of the chapel, it may be less than this.
- Although current Government guidelines has limited attendees at funerals, crematoria, cemeteries and churches to specific numbers , we can reassure you we will do everything possible to make sure the service for your loved one is carried out to our normal high standard.
- In accordance with the Government’s Test and Protect Policy, all Crematoria, Cemeteries and Churches require a list from us of the names and contact details of mourners who are attending.
- Not all churches are currently open. A member of our staff will advise you which churches are able to facilitate funeral services.
- We can organise live streaming or recording of the funeral for family or friends who cannot attend.
- We can assist in arranging future Memorial or Celebration of Life services when appropriate.
